Horse Whisperer Diary -- week #3

I did what I said I would do and expanded the PF back out from a 40' diameter to a 50' and started out just like it was my first day with Luke.

I used only my body presence to add and take away pressure and did the advance and retreat technique to cause Luke to want to be with me. I really had expectations of having him accept me as his leader and let me start the "Touch of Love" which has worked so well in the past.

I could get to within about 2 inches from him with my hand and then he would go away, sometimes real fast and sometimes just move enough so I could not touch him.

I even put him back in the stock trailer and tried going on one side and then the other, in front and in back of him. I calmly and non threateningly hung my hands over the gate and through the sides. Again he would let me get about 2 inches from him and then he would move away again. I blew my breath on him and caused his mane to move a little and he acted like a mountain lion had jumped at him and he jumped to the back of the trailer.

He definitely is a challenge. If I didn't trust the Lord to believe that I am in the EMM for a purpose higher than I can see, I would be tempted to go back to my old Cowboy ways. I could rope him and tie him to something that he could not break and tie up a hind leg and sack him out. I could get a saddle on him but it would be a fight and he or I would lose a little hide. I believe I can prove that with the help of Jesus and the patience of Job that I will be ready for the show in May.

If you happen to be praying people who read this remember Luke and I while you are on your knees. We both need it especially with the rain that is falling as I write this because the corrals will be very wet again this week.
